The Nursery was started by my father Philip Tivey in 1956

My father grew many different things including salad crops but was always drawn to flower crops.  He eventually concentrated on dahlias and chrysanthemums, and doing floristry locally.

I (Chris Tivey) joined the business in 1967 with an ordinary national diploma in commercial horticulture.

At this time we started to exhibit at city flower shows and agricultural shows in the horticultural sections.  We were awarded many Gold medals and best in show awards for our exhibits, and consequently began to supply many thousands of plants each year by mail order throughout the country.

In 1982 we exhibited at Royal Horticultural Society shows and in 1983 did our first Chelsea display which was the first of 21 continuous years of exhibits there.  During that time we were awarded two gold and many silver gilt awards.

In 1998 we were awarded the Williams memorial medal for the best exhibit of a single genus at any RHS show in that year.

In 2003 we changed direction due to the decline in demand for our products, my father retired and the business was relocated and myself and my wife Linda began to specialise in alstroemerias.

After a short spell under the wing of Peter Smith (who sadly passed away) the countries leading expert in alstroemeria at the time particularly the Princess Lily range, we again became independent and were able to offer Alstroemeria varieties from many different breeding programs and can normally make available any new variety of alstroemeria that comes on to the market.
